Booked your first puppy yoga class — or thinking about it? Here's exactly how a session at Therapy Puppy Studio works, what to bring (spoiler: almost nothing), and the little rules that keep both you and the puppies happy.
How the hour works
Every class blends two things: a gentle, instructor-led yoga flow (about 40 minutes at our Toronto and Ajax studios, 35 minutes in Vaughan) and 20 minutes of dedicated puppy socialization. The puppies are in the room for the entire session — wandering between mats, flopping onto them mid-pose, and generally ignoring the choreography. That's the point.
The flow is beginner-friendly, and honestly, yoga is optional. Some guests follow every pose; others spend most of the hour sitting cross-legged with a puppy asleep in their lap. Both are correct.
What to bring
Just yourself and comfortable clothes you don't mind getting puppy paws on. Yoga mats are provided and thoroughly sanitized before every class — in fact, we ask that you don't bring a personal mat, for the safety of the puppies. At our Toronto studio you'll also find complimentary organic protein bars made fresh by The Nutrition Bar.
Checking in
After you book, you'll get a confirmation email with your time slot. We check guests in from a class name list, so have your order confirmation or order number handy. Doors open about 5 minutes before class — and please be on time: entry isn't permitted more than 10 minutes after the start, and tickets are forfeited beyond that window (the puppies' routine matters!).
Meeting the puppies
Which puppies you'll meet depends on your class — our Toronto studio features mini dachshunds guaranteed every class, while Vaughan and Ajax rotate litters like English bulldogs and cavapoos. Every ticket listing states the breed for that date, so you know exactly who you're cuddling before you book.
During class, the puppies set the pace. They're free to rest, play, or step away from interaction whenever they choose, and we keep class sizes small so there are always enough puppies to go around — we maintain at least a 1:2 puppy-to-attendee ratio. All we ask of guests is gentle, calm engagement. (Read more about how our puppies are cared for in Our Standards.)
A few practical things
- Ages: classes are open to ages 7+, every attendee needs a paid ticket, and minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
- Tickets: non-refundable and non-transferable — confirm your schedule before booking. See our refund policy.
- Real talk: puppy interaction carries small inherent risks — think enthusiastic scratches or playful nips. That's puppies being puppies.
Pick your studio
We run classes at three GTA studios: Toronto (575 Yonge St, 2nd Floor), Vaughan (4000 Steeles Ave W), and Ajax (190 Station St). Toronto has paid street parking and Green P lots nearby; Vaughan and Ajax both have free plaza parking.
